Argumento de Jumper

Masta Ace - A Long Hot Summer

Masta Ace podría considerarse uno de los poquísimos supervivientes de la generación rap de los 80 cuya música sigue siendo relevante hoy, cuyos álbumes siguen interesando y no sólo a sus incondicionales. MC de Brookyln, excelente líricamente y con una entrega, aunque no espectacular, sólida y sin fisuras.

Tres años después del aclamado “Disposable arts”, Masta Ace nos ofrece este “A long hot summer”, que sigue en su senda y lleva la carrera del rapero un poquito más allá. Con un sonido característicamente neoyorquino, la mezcla de conciencia y activismo con una notoria habilidad para contar historias da exquisitos resultados, conformando un trabajo brillante que hace justicia a su propio catálogo.

Y justicia también al clásico del que toma prestado el sample, “Good ol’ love” sirvió como primer single para presentar el trabajo en sociedad y dar una pequeña muestra de lo que se puede encontrar en él. El tema: el talentoso productor 9th Wonder, estableciéndose como una referencia en su campo, y Ace reestableciendo su posición en el juego. Pero aún mejor es “Da grind”, dónde comparte el micro con Apocalypse y ambos dan una lección de sinceridad y amor por el rap sobre una instrumental brillante y nostálgica. “Big city” y “H.O.O.D” son dos temas muy destacables, con un sonido Kanye West-esque, pero sin las irritantes vocales aceleradas.

Pero si hay un momento emocionante, es cuando llega “Beautiful”. Koolade Croatia se saca de la manga una instrumental etérea, nocturna, y elevadora mientras Ase nos sujeta a un metro de altura –como si fuéramos un globo de helio- con su impecable dosis de realidad. Sobrecogedor.

“F.A.Y.” (Fuck All Y’all) es una mirada al estado del rap a día de hoy. Lamentable. Aunque si eso inspira a gente como Ace a hacer temas como este, aún no esta todo perdido. Cabe destacar la sinceridad y humildad del invitado, Strick…
